The University has partnered with Poplar Place Farms, which will provide the home training and competition facility. Poplar Place is one of the premier eventing venues in the country. In addition, Werner Geven will serve as the Team Coach. He is a highly respected instructor and competitor throughout the world of Equestrian Eventing.

What is Eventing?

According to the USEA website, Eventing is an "equestrian triathlon." It involves working with a horse both on the flat and over fences. The three phases are: dressage, endurance (or cross-country), and show jumping. Over the centuries it has developed from the test of the ideal military charger. Eventing has now evolved into an exciting sport attracting interest from all levels of sports enthusiasts, from weekend hobby riders to professional international stars.

Home Facility

Poplar Place Farm, owned and operated by Donna and Gary Stegman, is located on 188 rolling acres in Hamilton, Georgia, just north of Columbus, and is about 100 miles southwest of Atlanta. Poplar Place offers full board, training board, training, instruction, horses for sale and a show facility. They primarily specialize in English riding (eventing, dressage & jumping). However, the facility is available to all equestrian disciplines. In 1997, the farm opened a 20-stall main barn, which is used primarily for horses in training. The main barn features three hot-and-cold wash stalls, a heated-and-cooled tack room and rubber-paved aisles. All stalls are 14' x14', rubber matted, and have a fly-spray system and automatic waters. Poplar Place Farm also offers a custom-feeding program, including administration of supplements as directed.
